WATCH: Influencer inspires Irish child with Alopecia to take hat off in public for first time

American influencer Abby Wren captured the heartwarming moment a young Irish girl with Alopecia named Elyssa felt comfortable enough to remove her hat in public.

The candid moment was captured in Abby's TikTok, one of a few she posted of a special event for children with Alopecia to meet and celebrate each other. According to Abby, families drove to Dublin from all over the country "to celebrate Alopecia with us and we got to share the power of creativity with over 20 kids who also have Alopecia."

For some of them, it was their first time seeing another person with Alopecia, and others bravely took off their hats and scarves for the first time ever.

It is estimated that Alopecia affects around 0.1% to 0.2% of Ireland's population.

The American influencer said in a post on Instagram that "our hearts are exploding with so much love for this incredible country and the amazing community who welcomed us with so much love! I’m so thankful Alopecia brought us together!!"

Abby continued, saying "today was Elyssa’s FIRST time bald in public!! I am SO incredibly proud of her courage all day long, and so grateful we caught this special moment together where she bravely pulled off her hat for the first time around other people.

Her sweet mom and I had an emotional chat later and reflected on how powerful this Alopecia community is, and how important it is to CELEBRATE being different! If this brave 10 year old can face her fears, you can too. Forever inspired by these amazing babes!"
