Watch: ‘Come Back Sam Maguire’ - David Craig to perform in local bar for RTÉ TV

All-Ireland shout for supporters to pack out The Cyclists Rest in Fahan decked in Donegal jerseys, hats, flags and headbands

With the All-Ireland final just days away, singer-songwriter David Craig is set to perform his revamped hit Come Back Sam Maguire tonight (Wednesday) at The Cyclists Rest Bar and Lounge in Fahan, and it’s all being filmed for RTÉ News.

The performance will be recorded live at 7.30pm as part of a segment capturing the Donegal buzz ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Kerry.

Locals are being urged to turn out in their Donegal colours with jerseys, flags, hats and headbands and help generate the kind of atmosphere that swept the county to glory in 2012.

“If you want to be on the TV, come down to the Cyclists Rest on Wednesday at 7.30 and wear your Donegal colours,” Craig said. “We might have a good night!”

Craig has updated his 2012 hit Come Back Sam Maguire to reflect the 2025 campaign that has brought Donegal all the way to the All-Ireland final for just the fourth time in the county’s history and said the reaction to the new version has taken him by surprise.

“It’s flying,” he said. “I didn’t realise it was getting half the reaction it was, but it’s on the radio four or five times a day and people are coming up to me the whole time telling me they love the new version. I’m delighted with it.”

The performance is part of a short piece for RTÉ News later this week, designed to show the country that Donegal is firmly behind their team.

“It kinda feels like the build up to Christmas day,” Craig added. “You’re doing things the whole week, buying tops and jerseys and everyone is in flying form. The buzz is top class. It feels very like 2012 all over again.”

Craig, who is from Inch Island, first wrote the track back in 2012 as Donegal marched to Sam Maguire glory under Jim McGuinness.

Now, with McGuinness back at the helm and another All-Ireland final on the horizon, Craig’s updated version is once again part of the soundtrack of a county dreaming big.

Locals are encouraged to arrive early at The Cyclists Rest tonight and join in the chorus - and maybe even catch themselves on the telly.
