Seven things: You know you’re from Donegal when …

This list aims to encompass some of the things that are ingrained in Donegal people, or at least heavily associated

Donegal folk love buses

If there was a World Cup for time spent travelling on buses, Donegal would be in with a fair shout of winning it.

Recent studies show 48.92 per cent of a Donegal student’s life is spent on a bus - a telling statistic, up there with the one that says that 83.44 per cent of statistics are actually made up on the spot.

Third-level classmates gawk at these timeframes, noting the Erasmus student Dimitar from Bulgaria will probably be home for the holidays quicker than Johnny from Bunbeg. Let’s face it, if you’re from certain parts of Donegal, a trip to the swimming pool or cinema takes hours, never mind third-level.

The buses used aren’t just any buses, either. A self-respecting Donegal student is more than willing to wait three hours in the rain on Feda O’Donnell’s, McGinley’s or Gallagher’s, instead of taking Bus Eireann. Ah no, we don’t have trains. Long story.
