Burnfoot cottages are celebrating being built 50 years with a family fun day
The Burnfoot cottages are celebrating 50 years being built by organising a mass and having live music on the greenon Saturday September 7.
This is a one off event. It had been done five years ago in Buncrana when Cockhill park celebrated its Golden jubilee. The committee organising the event in Burnfoot hope to emulate that day where it was a fun family day out.
The committee was set up in January of this year. They have had 12 meetings to date. At these meetings the group organised some fundraising events and began looking for sponsorship.
To raise money for this event, they had a car wash, a coffee morning, a poker classic, an 80’s and 90’s disco and they raffled off a tv.
The events are free to attend. They originally began fundraising to cover the cost of the day but they reached that total quickly. Once they reached the target any money raised afterwards went to the chosen charities the Donegal Hospice and the Oncology day care unit in Letterkenny Hospital. On the day itself there will be donation buckets going around.
The day begins at 4pm with mass on the green. The music begins at 5pm with ‘String Empire’ playing until 7pm. Paddy Traditional Music will then play from 7:15 to 9:15pm. The Inch Ramblers will begin at 9:30-11:30 pm. DJ Kevin McGrath will then come on from 11:30 pm too late.
There is music for everyone’s taste. There will also be bouncy castles and face painting for the kids. Tish’s chip van will be providing food on site.
Everyone on the committee chose these two charities as they all knew someone who went through either charity.
The group has made sure to make sure all safety measures are in place. The road will be closed off from the bottom of the green at the Muff road up to Burnfoot Youth Club. This will be a pedestrian area. They have bouncers coming along to make sure everything runs smoothly. The Red Cross will also be there with a first aid tent and a defibrillator.
