Yoga for Palestine takes place this Saturday
Selene Hoey is organising a fundraising event to raise money for Medical aid for Palestine (MAP).
She is organising an all day yoga retreat in Glencrow Hall in Moville. There will be three teachers on the day to lead the sessions: Selene Hoey, Julie Hegarty and Sabrina Friel.
This diversity of teachers will enable people to have the opportunity to try out different styles of yoga. From the more active Ashtanga to the super relaxing restorative yoga and everything in between. One yoga class for example, the gentle flow yoga session, is finishing with a sound bath which is a beautiful way to relax the body.
A timetable of the event
So much of yoga is to do with the breath. With this in mind there will be a mini breathwork class to introduce people to conscious breathing and show how even 5 minutes of breathing with awareness can have an amazing effect on our body and mind.
In addition to the yoga sessions we will have morning and afternoon heart-based meditation sessions lead by Claire Callery and Elizabeth Mc Quaid.
They are delighted to have Majida Al Askri, a Palestinian woman currently living in Buncrana, joining us for the day. Majida will speak with us about Palestine and the ongoing genocide.
There will be a light lunch provided which will include traditional Palestinian dishes.
This 12 hour event takes place on Saturday August 24 between 7:30am-7:30pm.
“Yoga for Palestine is an opportunity to raise primarily funds for medical aid for Palestinians and awareness to the plight of the Palestinians and our way of doing that was through yoga because I'm a yoga teacher and I know lots here of yoga and meditation teachers and it was really one of the only ways I could think of of helping” said Selene.
There is no entrance fee or charge for any of the sessions. There will however be donation buckets available on the day for those who are able and wish to make a financial contribution. Alternatively people can make donations online. The details can be found on the Yoga for Palestine Facebook page or Moville Yoga Instagram.
Rosie Kelly is also helping out and she has worked with shore to shore which aims to help communities in Palestine.
“I know we've like I'm involved with shore to shore solidarity. We kind of support the Palestinian kind of humanitarian aid and if people go to the website it's really easy to make a donation and you can choose to donate what you like and 100% of your money goes to the projects in Palestine. The projects include getting medical supplies to the medics who are going into the Palestinian hospitals that we see bombed” said Rosie.
