A host of events celebrating Carndonagh’s history and heritage are taking place during Colgan Heritage Weekend.
The weekend is part of National Heritage Week, which runs from August 17 to 25. The Colgan Heritage Committee will host several events over the weekend under the title Carndonagh: Communication and Heritage Down The Years.
On Saturday, August 17, there is a book sale from 1pm to 7 pm. At 6pm there will be a presentation on the 1937 Folklore Commission essays on Carndonagh schools.
The main exhibition focuses on the 1937 National School collection of essays and photographs from Carndonagh parish.
Essays will be exhibited during the day and a wine and cheese reception takes place at 7 pm.
On Sunday, the exhibition and book sale will continue. There will also be a guided tour of an area of local interest, commencing at 10.30am, followed by refreshments in the Colgan Hall.
A bus will be leaving from the Colgan Hall at a cost of €5 per person. It is advised to bring rainwear and sturdy footwear in case of inclement weather. Further information phone 0832021303 or email heritagecolgan@gmail.com.
