'Very unsettled' - Met Éireann make horrendous prediction for this weekend

Met Éireann is predicting a brutal end to this week on the weather front with "low pressure dominating" conditions over the weekend.

Their outlook for the rest of the work week is for "rather unsettled" weather with "showers and blustery winds while temperatures linger in the mid-teens."

As we move closers to the weekend, things will become more unsettled with Sunday looking like a complete washout.

They say Friday will see "sunny spells to start but cloud will increase later in the morning with isolated showers developing too.

"The showers will ease but the cloud will remain into the evening. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees with southwesterly breezes turning southerly later.

"Cloudy but mostly dry into the evening with just a few lingering isolated showers about the coasts. Perhaps a bit milder than recent nights with southerly breezes and lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees."

Met Éireann's Saturday forecast says: "A mix of cloudy periods and sunny spells with scattered showers developing through the afternoon for most areas. Southerly breezes will remain and highs slightly milder at 16 to 19 degrees.

"Current indications are for another very unsettled day [on Sunday] with low pressure dominating. Showers and blustery winds are likely with temperatures around average for this time of year."

Meanwhile, Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel has made a similar forecast for unsettled conditions, primarily heavy rain for most areas of the country.

Cathal said: "Wednesday, will begin rather overcast and wet across the majority of the country with rain slowly clearing to sunshine and showers for the afternoon and evening, some of which will be heavy. Highs today of 15-17 degrees Celsius in freshening westerly winds.

"Thursday, will be one of the better days this week with some pleasant sunny spells but also some passing heavy showers, most frequent across the north and west. Fresher feel overall with highs of 15-17 degrees Celsius in northwesterly wind.

"Friday looks like being the best day of the week with a good deal of dry weather throughout and feeling milder too as winds switch to a more south to southwesterly direction. Some cloudy intervals too especially towards the west coast. Highs of 18 degrees Celsius.

"This weekend may start dry on Saturday but outbreaks of heavy rain will spread from the southwest during the day, with outbreaks of heavy rain continuing into Sunday as a deepening area of low pressure stalls just to the west of Ireland. This low will make an attempt to push across the country on Sunday night into Monday bringing further outbreaks of heavy thundery rain, with a risk of stronger winds on its southern flank."
