Ireland's weather is cooling down and becoming more unsettled this week, according to the latest weather forecast from Met Éireann.

After enjoying temperatures above 26C last week, must of the country has seen the mercury call to around 21C or 22C since Sunday with the nights becoming cooler too.

Despite Met Éireann's outlook predicting "high pressure bringing a good deal of dry weather," Met Éireann is also predicting a good deal of rain, especially as we move towards and beyond the weekend.

Their forecast for Tuesday says: "Dry for most today, apart from scattered showers over parts of Munster and south Leinster which could be heavy or thundery at times, and will slowly become more isolated through the day. Elsewhere it will be largely dry with some bright spells and just the odd shower about. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees, with light to moderate easterly winds.

"Largely dry with clear spells and just isolated showers tonight, these most likely over parts of Leinster and Munster. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees in light to moderate east to northeast winds."

The forecast for the rest of the week continues:

"Wednesday will be mostly dry and bright, though there is the chance of an odd light shower. Long spells of sunshine will develop for most through the day, though it may stay cloudier in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees in light to moderate east to northeast winds.

"Dry with long clear spells [Wednesday night]. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in a light variable breeze.

"Dry for most with a mix of cloud and sunny spells with just a few stray showers occurring [on Thursday]. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees in light variable breezes.

"Another dry night with clear spells. Some mist and fog patches will develop in the west later in the night. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in a light variable breeze.

"Any mist and fog [on Friday morning] will clear to leave another mainly dry day with spells of sunshine. An isolated shower is possible towards Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees, warmest further west in light northwesterly or variable breezes."

They concluded: "Current indications suggest Saturday will see a mix of sunny spells and showers. Cloud then looks to build through Sunday with further showers and rain arriving into the southwest."
