Two Inishowen men set to tackle Toyko marathon

Inishowen runners Pat Gamble and Seosamh Mahon will take on the Tokyo marathon next Sunday

Two Inishowen men are set to complete every major marathon when they take on the Tokyo marathon next month.

If Clonmany's Pat Gamble along with his running partner, Buncrana's Seosamh Mahon finish the Tokyo marathon they will have completed six of the world's major marathons.

The six star major marathons include: London, Boston, New York, Chicago, Berlin and Tokyo.

Pat and Seosamh will become only the second and third runners to complete these marathons behind fellow Inishowen man Michael McLaughlin.

Speaking ahead of their trip to the Far East, Pat said to complete achieve the six stars would be a “dream come true”.

“It would be a great achievement,” he said. “It's been a long time coming. We were supposed to do this three years but covid got in the way.

“We were only a few days away from flying out in 2020 when the world went into lockdown, so hopefully everything goes according to plan this time and we can get those six stars.

“The only other Donegal man to do the same is Michael McLaughlin from Ballyliffin, so it would be a dream come true.”

After a gruelling training schedule, Pat and Seosamh who both run with Derry running club RISE, are ready and rearing to go.

“It's all systems go,” Pat said. “We have put the hard work in and now we just can't wait to get out there.

“We've no times in mind this time around, we're just going out to enjoy the race and the experience.”
