Ollie Horgan has been announced as the new assistant manager of Galway United.

Just over a month after leaving Finn Harps, Horgan has been confirmed in a new role – and his first competitive outing will be at Finn Park.

Galway-born Horgan, a teacher at St Eunan's College in Letterkenny, managed Harps for a memorable nine-year stint.

Last month, Horgan parted ways with the Ballybofey-based club following their relegation from the Premier Division having been the longest-serving manager in the League of Ireland.

Horgan, who had six of his nine years in the top flight, has now been recruited by Galway United manager John Caulfield.

Horgan said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge, we all know how difficult and demanding the league is, but I’m looking forward to getting started.”

The pair became friendly during their times as intermediate level managers, Horgan with Fanad United and Caulfield at Avondale United in Cork.

Galway missed out on promotion from the First Division after losing 3-0 to Waterford FC in a play-off.

The Tribesmen will begin the 2023 First Division campaign away to Harps on February 17, 2023.
