He’d have hated all the fuss but the esteem Ollie Horgan was held in was there for all to see this evening at Finn Park.
The former Harps manager and Galway United coach passed away on Thursday, aged 57, following a brief illness. Harps, led by captain Tony McNamee and visitors Trearty United, skippered by Lee Devitt, both laid wreaths in the middle of the pitch prior to kick-off.
Finn Park then rose to its feet as a minute’s applause honoured the man who guided their fortunes for nine successive seasons between 2013 and 2022.
Another Harps legend Tom Mohan, now with the FAI, also walked to the middle of the park and laid flowers. A native of Salthill, Horgan twice took the club to the Premier Division and maintained their top-flight status, often against considerable odds.
He was appointed assistant to John Caulfield at Galway United in 2022 as the Tribesmen went on to become First Division champions and established themselves as a Premier Division side.
