Finn Harps were left counting the cost of recent storm damage - but a generous donation from Shamrock Rovers has considerably softened the blow.

Harps officials are confident that repairs to damaged floodlighting at Finn Park will be repaired in good time for Friday-week when they host Dundalk in the first home game of 2025.

After some games in the 2024 season had to be rescheduled due to floodlight failure at the venue, Harps are confident that they won’t be forced into a repeat.

“We don’t expect that to happen,” Harps Chairman Ian Harkin said this week.

“We have been loolking at putting in LED lights, but the delivery times were too great so we decided to repair what we have - but we are looking to progress with LED lights

“For now, we will replace the existing bulbs and they should be here this week.”

Storm Éowyn caused other damage around Finn Park, but Shamrock Rovers have reached out to offer some financial assistance.

Harkin said: “We got a very kind donation from Shamrock Rovers to contribute towards that cost. We are very grateful to the Board of Directors at Shamrock Rovers for that very kind gesture.

“They saw our social post and they reached out. It came in the context of them doing so well in Europe and recognising the relationship that we have had with them historically. We have helped them out in their hour of need.

“We will work hard to get all of those repairs. We will have an assessment before the season starts to make sure that we are complying with all of the licencing.

“We have itemised everything and we have a to-do list. The biggest one was the lights again. Nineteen bulbs were out and we will get those replaced this week. It’s a significant cost that you just don’t forecast. We have a number of places, 10 or 15 around the ground, where there is damage.

“There is no major structurtal damage, but it was all stuff you just don’t see coming. We have a plan of works in place.”
