Action from Greencastle's match with Clonmany at the weekend

Jackie Crossan Premier Division

Greencastle FC 0 – Clonmany Shamrocks 5

Clonmany started brightly, with Terence Doherty seeing one shot blocked by David Henry and another cleared by William O’Carroll. At the other end, a deep corner from Cian Sharkey was headed just wide by Henry.

Clonmany took the lead in the 15th minute when Terence Doherty’s low cross found Conor Doherty, who slotted home at the back post. Alex McFadden made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Shane McCaul was fouled. Before halftime, Conor Doherty set up McFadden, who bundled the ball home for 3-0.

In the second half, Clonmany continued their dominance, with Terence Doherty scoring a stunning volley from six yards for their fourth goal. Shane McCaul added the fifth with a brilliant strike from the edge of the area. Despite battling hard, Greencastle couldn’t find a breakthrough, and Clonmany finished strongly with Jamie Coyle hitting the bar and forcing a save from Caelan McGrory.

Culdaff FC 0 – Redcastle United 2

There was an early scare for the home side when Jack McConalogue flashed a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but there were no takers. Culdaff responded with a long-range effort from Ben Curley, which was well saved by Seamus Houghton. The home side suffered a setback in the 30th minute when Jack O’Brien picked up an injury and was replaced by Noel McLaughlin.

The best chance of the first half came on 38 minutes when Keith Norris fed Aidan Cunningham, who turned well but saw his shot deflected onto the post. After the break, Redcastle’s Marc Bell had a golden opportunity but side-footed over from close range. Culdaff came close at the other end when Michael Coyle’s ball over the top found McLaughlin, but his effort was saved by Houghton.

Redcastle broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute when Curran fired a superb 20-yard free kick past Patrick McLaughlin. The visitors were reduced to 10 men shortly after when Curran received a second yellow card. Culdaff pressed, with Sonny Bonner going close with a lob that Houghton saved, and Cunningham firing wide from six yards. Redcastle sealed the points in the 86th minute when Conor Gillen found space behind the home defence and slotted past the stranded McLaughlin.

Illies Celtic 1 – Aileach FC 3

The game was evenly matched until the 35th minute when Aileach were awarded a penalty after Gavin Doherty was fouled. Darren McMonagle converted from the spot. Aileach doubled their lead before halftime when Gavin Doherty’s deep corner found Keith McColgan, who headed home.

Illies began the second half strongly, with Michael Owen Doherty’s effort tipped over by Conan Doherty. Jamie McDaid pulled one back from the penalty spot after being fouled. Illies pushed for an equalizer, with Paul Doherty’s powerful shot tipped over. However, Aileach sealed the win in the final minute when Gareth McGlynn crossed for Dermot Doherty to fire into the roof of the net.

HML Plant Hire Division One

Aileach Reserves 3 – Rashenny FC 2

Aileach took the lead in the 3rd minute when Kevin Boyle crossed for Stephen O’Donnell to head home. Rashenny equalized five minutes later when John Grant’s free kick eluded everyone and crept inside the post. Rashenny dominated the first half, with Declan McLaughlin twice denied by David McGeady and David McLaughlin hitting the post.

Early in the second half, Rashenny went ahead when Cormac Dillon converted a penalty after being fouled. Aileach leveled when Sean McHugh’s through ball found Charlie Campbell, who finished clinically. The game was decided in the final minute when Campbell latched onto Tom Doherty’s long pass and fired past Sean Friel.

Dunree United 1 – Cockhill Youths 4

Dunree started well, with Paddy Doherty setting up Aaron Harkin, who fired over from 12 yards. Cockhill opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Kieran McElroy powered home a header from a corner. Two quick goals followed, with Darragh McDermott slotting home after Dean O’Donnell’s flick, and Paul Mullan drilling in after a defensive error.

Dunree pulled one back before halftime when Jamie Brosnan set up Cian Moran, who curled a shot into the top corner. Cockhill dominated the second half, with Mullan adding his second to complete the scoring.

Redcastle Reserves 1 – Rashenny Youths 0

Before halftime, Brendan Murphy’s bicycle kick hit the bar, and Lennon McLaughlin’s long-range shot was well saved by Roger McGilloway. Redcastle dominated the second half, with Leech and Jason Lynch both going close. Rashenny nearly equalized late on, but McCole produced a superb save to ensure the points stayed with Redcastle.

Aileach Youths 3 – Clonmany Reserves 3

Clonmany took an early lead when Tiernan McDonald’s cross deflected past Dylan Clarke. Aileach leveled when Yanga Molodo raced onto Daithi Grant’s pass and finished clinically. Clonmany regained the lead through Tyler McEleney after good work by DJ McGeoghaghan.

Aileach equalized before halftime, with Darragh Kerrigan feeding Molodo, who fired into the roof of the net. In the second half, Aileach went ahead when John Eyre capitalized on a defensive mix-up. Both teams hit the crossbar before Clonmany equalized late on, with Jake O’Donnell setting up McEleney to score from 12 yards.

Illies took the lead in the 3rd minute when Shane Devlin converted a penalty after a handball. Neil Moran doubled their lead shortly after, firing into the roof of the net after a John Campbell cutback. Cockhill pulled one back in the second half when Liam O’Donnell scored from close range.

Ulster Junior Shield

Donegal Town 1 – Sea Rovers 2 (AET)

The match began disastrously for Donegal Town when goalkeeper John Rodriguez was carried off with an injury, replaced by Eamon Jordan. Sea Rovers dominated possession early on and came close to scoring when Jason Doherty’s effort from a corner narrowly missed the target after 30 minutes.

Daniel Gallagher had another promising chance for Rovers, unleashing a strong shot that required Jordan to stretch fully to save. Donegal Town responded through Nicujem Dominick, whose well-taken shot was confidently handled by Rovers' goalkeeper Mark McLaughlin. Just before halftime, Ryan Doherty of Rovers shot over the bar, leaving the game scoreless at the break.

Rovers started the second half strongly, taking the lead when Andrew Gallagher controlled a corner from Connor O’Neill and slotted the ball low past the keeper. Donegal Town increased their attacking intensity, with Benny Byrne’s close-range effort going just over the bar, while another attempt forced McLaughlin to tip the ball past the post.

Rovers hit the post through Daniel Gallagher following good setup play by Matthew Doherty. In the dying moments of regular time, a goalmouth scramble after a corner allowed Donal Flannery to tap in and force extra time.

In the first period of extra time, Matthew Doherty demonstrated excellent play, setting up Daniel Gallagher, who rounded a defender and fired low past Jordan. Rovers’ defence stood firm in the second half of extra time to secure a hard-fought victory.

Kildrum Tigers Res 2 – Gleneely Colts 0

Kildrum Tigers took an early lead after seven minutes when Aaron O’Donnell latched onto a ball over the top and chipped the ball over Nimai Osio from eight yards. Both teams battled for midfield dominance for the remainder of the half, with no clear-cut chances.

Gleneely Colts began the second half brightly, with Shane Diver shooting wide from the edge of the box. Kildrum doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Shane McNulty tapped in from close range after a ball across the box. McNulty had an opportunity to score a third two minutes later but hit the crossbar with a penalty.

Gleneely pressed forward, with Paul Doherty finding Shane Diver, but his shot was straight at the keeper. Kildrum held strong defensively to secure their progression to the next round.

Culdaff FC Res 1 – Gweedore Celtic Res 4

Culdaff FC created the first opportunity when a deep cross from Manus Doherty found Jack Curley, who fired wide at the back post. Gweedore settled into the game, with Cian McFadden firing narrowly over the bar after a through ball from Cronan McFadden.

The visitors continued to press, forcing Ruairi McLaughlin into a fine save. However, against the run of play, Culdaff took the lead in the 24th minute when Bryan McCandless finished confidently after a superb through ball from Dermot Diver.

Gweedore equalised shortly after with a brilliant curling effort from Cian McBride. The second half saw the visitors dominate, with Charlie Gallagher scoring twice to complete a hat-trick, benefiting from defensive errors by Culdaff. Despite Culdaff’s attempts to fight back, including several fine saves by Joseph McGee, Gweedore sealed their win with Gallagher’s clinical finishing.

QPS 4 – Oldtown Celtic 2 (AET)

QPS started brightly, with Lee Barr forcing Michael Gibson into an early save. Oldtown opened the scoring on 28 minutes through Kevin McGrath’s superb diving header. QPS equalised before halftime, with Denim McLaughlin’s header parried by Gibson, only for Mark Murray to slot home the rebound.

After a quiet first period of extra time, Darragh Barron put QPS ahead in the opening minute of the second period. Boyle added his second in the final minute to secure QPS’s progression to the next round.

Buncrana Res 1 – Glengad United 2 (AET)

Buncrana Reserves took the lead early through Ethan Soal’s well-placed free kick. The first half saw little further action, with defences on top.

In the final minute of regular time, Glengad’s Joe Doherty fired a sweetly struck shot from the edge of the area to equalise. With penalties looming in extra time, Doherty struck again with a deflected free kick to secure the win for Glengad.
