Coleraine FC has secured the services of midfielder Ronan Doherty from Cliftonville FC.

Doherty, who celebrated his 29th birthday on January 10, the day of his transfer, becomes Coleraine's second acquisition of the January transfer window.

Doherty's football journey began at Cockhill Celtic in the Ulster Senior League. He later advanced to the Premiership with Institute under manager Paddy McLaughlin.

In 2019, he reunited with McLaughlin at Cliftonville, where he contributed to the team's successes in the Irish Cup, BetMcLean Cup, and County Antrim Shield.

Known for his creativity and ability to control the tempo of matches, Doherty has been recognised as one of the most talented midfielders in the Sports Direct Premiership.

Coleraine's head coach, Dean Shiels, expressed his enthusiasm about the new signing, stating: "I’m delighted to get Ronan on board. I think he’s a top midfielder in this league; he controls the rhythm of games and he gets teams playing."

Doherty is set to wear the number 27 shirt for Coleraine. His arrival is expected to bolster the midfield, especially following the departures of Ciaron Harkin and Mackenzie Carse.
