Finn Harps boss Darren Murphy
Darren Murphy insisted on no Finn Harps player leaving Turner’s Cross with their head dropped after losing a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw.
The result away to champions Cork City leaves Harps with 10 points from their last 12 as they face into a final four-game push for a play-off spot.
“I said I didn’t want to see any heads being down. There didn’t need to be any heads dropped this evening,” Murphy asserted.
“From my point of view, you’d have taken a draw before you came.
“Cork showed us the utmost respect. When they’re 2-0 down, they bring on Dijksteel, Keating, Maguire, Bolger, and O’Sullivan so it showed the strength and depth that they have.
“It was always going to be a tough second half. But when we got back to 2-each, we probably had the best chance to win the game.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t happen but that’s now four games unbeaten and I would’ve taken a point coming to Cork; there’s no question about that.
“I don’t think anybody can say we didn’t deserve something from the game. We kept the ball very well. We moved the ball well. We created chances in the game. We defended well. And we asked questions of Cork. That’s something you have to take from the game.”
Murphy takes plenty more confidence from the turnaround from a six-game losing streak to their current form.
“I’m a glass-half-full guy anyway. I’m not a negative guy. I don’t really talk about the negative things even in the defeats.
“I always looked for the positives and always believed in the group. I thought the group could turn it around when everybody else was writing us off so quickly.
“We’ve been able to do that over the last four games and we’ve now got four massive games left.”
