Inishowen were proudly represented at the Foyle Cup last week with some stellar results. Here's a list of how the sides did throughout the week from the U-11s to the U-17 side.
Inishowen U-11s
The U-11s with Oliver and Dermot O’Donnell at the helm began their week with their opening game on Monday at the Melvin Centre in Strabane.
Against Camlough Rovers they recorded a 6-0 win with Cathal Doherty grabbing a hat trick, with Jack Gill, Callum McClenaghan, and Oisin McElroy grabbing one apiece.
On Tuesday they recorded two wins defeating Stranocum Youth 3-0 with Callum McClenaghan, Eoin Hagan, and Lucas Duffy on the mark. In their second game, they defeated Eglington Eagles on the same scoreline with two goals from Jack Gill and one from Jake Hegarty.
On Wednesday they recorded two wins to top the group defeating Lisnaskea Rovers 9-2, while also getting a 9-0 win over Tummery AFC.
In the last sixteen on Thursday Inishowen moved to the Bishop Field in Creggan where they faced St Oliver Plunketts from Belfast and it was there where goals from Cathal Doherty and Eoin O’Hagan ensured a 2-0 win and a quarter-final against Newell FC.
In a pulsating game, Inishowen advanced to the semifinals with goals from Eoin O’Hagan, Callum McClenaghan and Cathal Doherty giving them a 3-2 victory.
In the semifinal, they came up against Rosario and were defeated by a last-minute free-kick going down 2-1 with Eoin O’Hagan on the mark.
In the third/fourth place play-off, Inishowen came up against Top Of The Hill Celtic, and despite leading 3-0 at half-time with goals from Louis McLaughlin, Harry Connolly, and Joey Gillen, they drew 3-3 and lost the shootout to finish a superb fourth place overall.
Inishowen U-12
Inishowen U-12s under Diarmuid O’Brien and Liam Mooney played all three group games in Maginn Park. On Monday they played Glen Rovers and began with a good win over Glen Rovers with both Harry McGeough and Ben McLaughlin grabbing two apiece, with Shane Tierney, Joshua McLaughlin and Shay Doherty all getting on the scoresheet.
On Tuesday they faced Enniskillen Rangers and scored a comprehensive win with Harry McGeough, Dylan Cregan, Parker Craig, Shea McLaughlin, Shay, and Corey Doherty all on target.
The final group game on Wednesday saw Strabane Athletic come to Maginn Park and in a much tighter game, Inishowen went ahead through a fine Dylan Cregan strike before Harry McGeough added a second. But Strabane got a goal back before the break to leave the game in the balance. However, Inishowen stepped up to the plate and won to top of the group.
In the last sixteen clash, Inishowen played Ballinamallard in Prehen on Thursday morning. In very wet conditions Inishowen was on the back foot for long periods with goalkeeper Liam McLaughlin and his defence of Daithi McDaid, Tony Reddin, Parker Craig, and Evan Doherty putting in huge shifts.
Shay Doherty fired Inishowen ahead before the break and then Senan Doyle added a second as the rain poured down with Ballinamallard getting a late consolation.
Against a slick Glenavon outfit in the quarter-finals, Inishowen battled very well throughout but went down to a 3-0 defeat and in truth never really recovering from a couple of early setbacks.
On Friday morning in Newbuildings, Inishowen faced Donegal and fell two goals behind. But a stirring fightback saw goals from Shay Doherty and Ben Mclaughlin get them back on terms only to lose it in the last kick of the game after failing to clear a free kick.
Saturday saw Inishowen face Limavady Youth in Lisnagelvin in wet conditions and they emerged as 1-0 winners with a last-minute Harry McGeough penalty to seal a seventh-place finish from seventy-six teams.
Inishowen U-13
The U-13s also had all three group games in Maginn Park on Monday as Jack Ferry and Alan Clarke's side began with Crumlin United in opposition.
Inishowen were rampant from the start with Harry McDaid grabbing four goals and Kai Doherty getting a brace. Goals from Oisin O’Hare, Pauric Doherty, Sean McCool, Michael Bradley, and Christopher O’Connor completed the rout.
On Tuesday it was Sion Swifts who were the visitors and Inishowen were very unfortunate to come out on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline having been punished for one of the very few errors they made in the game.
Then on Wednesday Strabane Athletic provided the opposition and goals from Kai Doherty, Michael Bradley, Danny Friel, and Harry McDaid ensured a 4-0 win after it was scoreless at the break.
Inishowen qualified for the cup by virtue of being the best runner-up and was rewarded with a tie against Moyola Park FC in Maginn Park on Thursday morning at 10am in the last sixteen.
Goals from the penalty spot by Michael Bradley and Danny Friel and a third from Christopher O’Connor gave Inishowen a deserved 3-1 win, but in a repeat quarter-final against Sion Swifts they fell to a 2-0 defeat spurning some good chances in the process.
On Friday in Castledawson, Inishowen came from two down to level matters against Donegal with Oisin O’Hare grabbing both goals, but for the third time in the week, an Inishowen side lost on penalties.
On Saturday morning Inishowen finished their campaign with a 3-1 win over Moyola Park FC with goals from Kai Doherty, Mark Faulkner, and Rhys Nicholas to finish in seventh place from an entry of 52 teams.
Inishowen U-14s
Daniel Doherty and Brian Murray’s side began in Carrowmena when they faced Strathroy Harps, and in a close game, they came out on the right side of a 3-2 win, courtesy of goals from Daniel Curran, Rian O’Donnell, and Cian McLaughlin.
They followed that up in Gleneely on Tuesday with a 5-2 win over Crumlin United with a brace from Ryan O’Loughlin and goals from Rian O’Donnell, Ryan McCaul, and Harry Óg Harrigan.
Back in Gleneely on Wednesday they faced Don Boscos and recorded an excellent 4-0 win with Rian O Donnell, Tiernan Sumner, Conor Spence, and Harry Óg Harrigan all on the mark to top the group.
In the last sixteen clash on Thursday morning, they made the long trip to Dergview to play Coleraine Colts where goals from Lukas Sliageris, and a last-minute winner from Harry Óg Harrigan gave Inishowen a 2-1 win.
They were desperately unlucky in the quarter-final against Hillsborough Boys recovering from two goals down to end the game with a 2-2 draw after goals from Harry Óg Harrigan and Cian McLaughlin. In the penalty shootout, Inishowen missed a penalty to win it and then lost in sudden death.
On Friday in Roe Mill Limavady, Inishowen got back to winning ways with goals from Ryan O’Loughlin, Daniel Curran, and Ryan McCaul ensuring a 3-1 victory. They completed their program by going down to Crusaders on Saturday morning to finish in sixth place overall from 56 teams.
Inishowen U-15s
The U-15s started in Gleneely with a game against Rosario and they turned in an excellent performance with Ronan Mailey getting two goals, Marcos Rutherford and Hayden Boyle grabbing one apiece, and an own goal ensuring a 5-1 win for a bright start.
On Tuesday they moved to Culdaff and faced Phoenix Athletic but went down 3-1. Back in Culdaff, Tummery Athletic were the visitors on Wednesday and Hayden Boyle fired Inishowen ahead from the penalty spot but the visitors equalised just before the break. Inishowen regained the lead late on with a superb Lughaidh McCool free-kick to clinch the win.
Inishowen missed out on the cup by goals conceded but qualified for the plate and met Northend FC in Leafair on Thursday evening. Hayden Boyle scored the goal in a 1-1 draw and for the second time that day, Inishowen lost out in a penalty shootout.
On Friday, Inishowen travelled to Wilton Park to face FDS Finland (Aston Villa) and after a 2-2 draw with goals from Hayden Boyle and Tiernan Diver they won out 9-8 in a nail-biting penalty shootout. They completed their week on Saturday beating Moyolla 2-1 to finish 21 from an entry of 44 teams.
Youth League U-17s
Adam Curran’s U-17 side played their group games in Greencastle and began on Monday evening with an emphatic 5-1 win over St Patrick’s with two goals from Lorcan McGonigle and Shay Grant and one from Olly Coyle.
On Tuesday evening in Greencastle, they had another victory 4-0 with goals from Elliot Friel, Mark McLaughlin, Oran Doherty, and Kevin Boyle. Their final group game ended with a 1-0 win over Goldborne Sports from England.
On Thursday evening they qualified for the cup semi-final and played Partick Thistle. and while they fell to a 3-0 defeat the boys were in the game for long periods. This left them with a third/fourth place play-off against Derry City which saw the LOI side score a hard-fought 2-0 win to leave Inishowen in fourth place overall.
