Donegal's Stephen McLaughlin has extended his stay at Mansfield Town for another year, committing to the League One club.

The 33-year-old, who previously played for Nottingham Forest and Southend, has featured in 149 matches over four seasons with the Stags.

Despite a knee injury in April 2023 that sidelined him for the first three months of the last campaign, he managed to make 28 appearances across all competitions.

He played a crucial role in their promotion-securing victory against Accrington Stanley on April 16 and netted his sole goal of the season in a win over Gillingham shortly thereafter.

The Irish defender is the fourth player from the promotion-winning squad to re-sign in the past two days, following in the footsteps of midfielder George Maris and forwards Lucas Akins and Rhys Oates, who have also agreed to one-year contracts.

Originally launching his professional career with Finn Harps, McLaughlin later transferred to Derry City in 2011. In 2013, he made the move to Nottingham Forest, where he has since built a commendable career in English football. His tenure with Mansfield began in 2020.
