Alleged League of Ireland bribery case first reported to Donegal Gardaí

The League of Ireland player at the centre of an alleged bribery case first reported the approach to GardaÍ in Donegal.

It’s being said that the player in question was supposedly offered over €30,000 to deliberately get sent off in the league’s opening round of fixtures on the weekend of February 16.

However, the player is said to have instantly rejected the offer and immediately highlighted the incident to club officials who, in turn, alerted the GardaÍ.

The Irish Independent is reporting that the approach was picked up on CCTV at the venue and shows the player in question initially being asked to sign a jersey. However, once the illegal offer is apparently made the jersey is thrown back at the suspect.

The Independent also states that a search was carried out in Dublin by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) who also seized phones and other devices during that operation.
