Finn Harps look set to be without Caoimhin Porter for a prolonged period after the Derry native suffered injury on Friday night.
Porter had to be withdrawn in the 64th minute of the 1-1 draw with Longford Town at Finn Park.
The 21-year-old had to be carried off the pitch and was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital for assessment.
Porter was restored to the starting 11 as a right wing-back, but just after the hour his night was ended when chopped down.
“Caoimhin took a really bad challenge,” said Harps first team coach Stephen McNutt.
“It looked a terrible challenge. I don’t know how the ref’ hasn’t seen it.”
It had been a big night for Porter, who took his new baby daughter, Ayda, out as a mascot at the start of the game.
While there was no early prognosis on the extent of the injury, McNutt was fearful that Harps could be without the on-loan Derry City man for a spell.
He said: “Caoimhin is away to hospital. It was a nasty challenge. It will be heartbreaking for Caoimhin and for ourselves to be without him. We don’t have a big squad so to lose Caoimhin again is a blow.”
