Rainey and Filip Da Silva scored in each half as Dave Rogers’ side put Treaty United to the sword in Ballybofey on Friday night.

Rainey’s header had Harps in front and Da Silva made the win safe in the 64th minute. Okwuy Okwute was fed by Michael Harris and his driven centre was tapped home by Da Silva.

The home crowd, said to be 1,210, was getting a little jittery, but Da Silva firmly removed any doubt. It was a straightforward night at the office for a depleted Harps, who took a second win of the year.

Harps took the lead in the 17th minute. Rainey, who had been denied just seconds earlier, rose high to head home from Ryan Flood’s corner.

Just three minutes later, Harps were inches from a second when Flood fired against the crossbar from 25 yards. The follow-up by Rainey was saved by Shane Hallahan, the Treaty goalkeeper.

Earlier, Tim Hiemer saved with his feet from Success Edogun, who broke free only for a heavy touch to force him a little too wide. A moment’s silence was held before the game in memory of Hiemer’s grandfather, who died last week.

Edogun was among the goalscorer a week ago as the Shannonsiders overcame Longford Town 3-2 for their first win of the season. On Friday night, Tommy Barrett’s team rarely looked threatens

Late in the first half, Alec Byrne looked to have been in on goal with a chance of an equaliser, but Conor Fitzgibbon’s offside flag halted his march.

An ever-growing bunch of injuries saw captain Keith Cowan joined on the absent list by Caoimhin Porter, Cian Lynch, Daithi McCallion and Sean O’Donnell, meaning Rogers promoted Shane McMonagle and Kevin Jordan for their first starts. In added time, Rogers gave teenager Max Johnston his debut, the youngster who was making his maiden appearance in a senior squad.

Harps had a big chance to extend their advantage in the 61st minute, but Hallahan saved well from Flood, who eyed up the target after being picked out by a cut-back from Da Silva.

After Da Silva doubled the Harps lead, it was pretty much plain sailing for the hosts, although Hiemer spilled from a Mark Walsh shot five minutes from the end.
