Cockhill Celtic celebrate their win over St Mochta's.
Cockhill Celtic are sweating on the fitness of two players ahead of the FAI Intermediate Cup final.
Keegan Hegarty and Lee McColgan were both forced off early in Saturday's FAI Senior Cup win over St Mochta's.
Hegarty left the action in the 17th minute and McColgan, a Republic of Ireland amateur international, was also helped off just 12 minutes later. Cockhill are slated to face Rockmount in the April 23 final at The Showgrounds in Sligo.
“They look like two hamstring injuries, so it's not great,” Cockhill manager Gavin Cullen told Donegal Live.
“We will have to get them assessed, but with the time frame involved you'd have to be worried about them. Hopefully we got them taken off quick enough.”
Cockhill came from 2-0 down to overcome St Mochta's 5-4 after extra time in a pulsating Cup tie at the Charlie O'Donnell Sports Grounds.
The Inishowen men were inspired by a superb hat-trick from substitute Adam McLaughlin.
Cullen said: “Adam has that in his locker and he certainly produced the goods. Adam's first two goals were as good as you'll see anywhere.”
Cockhill were rocked when they shipped a pair of first-half goals and they had to shake their heads clear again when St Mochta's went 3-1 ahead just after McLaughlin found the net with a sublime free-kick.
Cullen said: “St Mochta's are a good side. We weren't at our best, but we showed good character, especially being 3-1 down.
“It was a real sucker punch too when we conceded to go 4-4, but again we still had the courage and the belief to go win it. That's massive and it's something you couldn't buy.
“We had to really dig deep and we had to use the full bench there. We changed things up, but I always know that boys will make a difference.”
Cullen told how he had to give the hair dryer treatment to his squad at half-time.
He said: “The first half was our most lacklustre in a long time. We were lethargic and it looked as if it didn't mean enough to us. It's not often we have to read the riot act, but we did and we got the reaction.”
Cockhill trail Bonagee United at the summit of the Ulster Senior League, but they'll have the first of their games in hand this Friday evening when they take on Letterkenny Rovers at Leckview Park.
Cullen said: “It'll be a tough test over the next few weeks for the squad, but we have showed that we're ready for it.
“We'll need to get the heads switched on again.”
