Scoil Mhuire Buncrana made through their FAI Schools Senior Girls National Cup (U-20, Large Schools) semi-final outing against Coláiste Phobal Ros Cré courtesy of a solitary goal by Jodie Loughrey in ATU, Sligo on Thursday.

The Ireland U-17 International rifled home a set-piece from 25 yards out with 15 minutes on the clock to cap a fine personal week where she had scored the winner in the Ulster decider against Carndonagh Community School and signed for Sligo Rovers along with her sister Keri.

There was very little between the two sides as a physical battle ensued. The early goal proved to be the match-winner on the day for the side managed by Paddy Carr and Eoin Leonard.

Roscrea substitute Lily Ann O’Meara made an impact on proceedings and she came close to equalising on 52 minutes as she beat the diving Hollie Ferguson in a goalmouth scramble but the ball ricocheted off Ceola Bergin. Laura Hogan snapped at the third opportunity but the strike went wide of the far post.

Keri Loughrey had a few long distance, wind assisted, efforts but nothing really troubled Mollie Dooley in goal. Leah Ryan was solid in defence with Captain Kelsey Wing and Ceola Bergin impressing for Damien McCormack charges.

Scoil Mhuire will progress to the Senior Girls Cup Final now as they meet rivals St. Attracta’s Community School of Tubbercurry. The sides last met in the 2022 Junior Girls Cup semi-final decider with the Buncrana girls winning out and going on to win the National title. No doubt the Sligo School will be looking to avenge last season’s defeat.
