Krygtskl brothers, Anderson cousins among winners as Donegal boxers win Ulster titles

The Ulster Championship finals for boy and girl 4-7s were held on Sunday at Deele College in Raphoe and there was plenty of success for Donegal boxers, who now advance to the National Championships

Illies Golden Gloves boxers and coaches celebrate a successful day on Sunday

The Krygtskl brothers from Illies Golden Gloves and Twin Towns Boxing Club’s Anderson cousins were all celebrating Ulster titles at the weekend.

The Ulster Championship finals for boy and girl 4-7s were held on Sunday at Deele College in Raphoe.

Brothers Daniel and Oleski Krygtskl won their respective finals while Jack and Brian Anderson did likewise.

It was a positive day overall for Donegal clubs on home soil with a series of young punchers advancing to the National Championships.

Daniel Krygtskl returned the Boy 5 80+kgs title to Illies after seeing off Shane McDonagh from Dukes in the final. Krygtskl continued his good form when taking all the scorecards.

Oleski Krygtskl claimed the Boy 6 80kgs crown as he defeated Camlough puncher Callum McParland via a slender 3-2 split.

There was further joy for Illies Golden Gloves when Cormac Callaghan held sway in a tense Boy 4 42kgs final. Callaghan took a narrow 3-2 split decision against Mourne All Blacks’ Se Clarke.

Jack Anderson of Twin Towns claimed the Boy 4 50kgs crown when beating Thomas Marlow of Omagh. Anderson was handed a 4-1 split decision by the judges.

Brian Anderson was also handed a 4-1 split decision verdict by the judges in the Boy 5 63kgs final. Anderson had his hand raised after his bout against Gilford’s Kajus Dubinovicius.

Dunfanaghy’s Eddie McBride claimed a superb unanimous decision win over Silverbridge boxer Gene Duffy to earn the Boy 4 60kgs honours.

Shaun Doohan of Dunfanaghy BC wasted no time in claiming the Boy 5 80kgs title. Doohan stopped opponent Finn Donnelly from Cullaville in the opening round of their bout.

Conan Kearney of St Bridget’s was an emphatic winner against Nedas Smatakus from Gilford to take the Boy 6 66kgs crown.

Convoy’s Kerry Brown defeated Sionnain McCoy from St John Bosco, Newry to land the Girl 6 60kgs title. Brown was an impressive winner via a unanimous decision.

David Tennyson from the Gortahork-based Derryveagh BC proved to have too much for Pronsias Duffy of Gilford. Tennyson stopped Duffy in the third verse to leave with the Boy 6 63kgs title.

Raphoe BC’s Gary McNamara landed the Boy 7 60kgs title thanks to a dominant win over Jack Brannigan from Clonoe.

There were wins via walkover for several Donegal boxers: Isla Larkin (Letterkenny, Girl 4 49kgs); Ellis O’Donnell (Dungloe, Girl 4 53kgs); Taylor Parke (Raphoe, Boy 5 46kgs); Eunan Friel (Twin Towns, Boy 5 48kgs); Carys McFadden (Dunfanaghy, Girl 5 46kgs); Molly Lafferty (Raphoe, Girl 5 52kgs); Alesha Mullis Boyle (Dungloe, Girl 5 66kgs); Caoimhin Connolly (Twin Towns, Boy 6 48kgs); Jack Boyle (Dunfanaghy, Boy 6 85kgs); Luke Kelly (Dunfanaghy, Boy 7 67kgs); Nadine Pearson (St John Bosco, Boy 7 52kgs).

Caden Keenan of Twin Towns lost out on a 4-1 split to Leon Cowan (Dukes) in the Boy 4 54kgs final; Andrew McLaughlin (Illies) was beaten by Shane Stokes (Gilford) in the Boy 4 63kgs final; Odhran McCarry (Dunfanaghy) was bested by Conal McGrath (Ederney) in the Boy 5 52kgs final; Danny McManus (Mid Ulster) stopped Jack Barron (Twin Towns) in the Boy 5 57kgs final; St Bridget’s Kyrin Doherty was edged out by Marcus McDonagh (Killyman) in the Boy 6 70kgs final.
