Saturday’s National League Athletics Open due to take place in Abbottstown is the latest sporting event to be scuppered by weather.

Athletics Ireland has contracted to participate clubs - including the Donegal ones set to travel - and informed them that the decision was made due to travel safety concerns.

That correspondence read: “Due to the current weather warnings in place and potential for further warnings, we will be postponing Round 1 of the League (including the guest/open competitions in the afternoon) which was due to be held tomorrow (Sunday ) in Dublin.

“Please spread the word that this event is postponed so nobody makes an unnecessary journey.

“Arrangements for the rescheduling of this event will be confirmed early next week”.
