Delight for St Bridget's in Clonmany at the County Antrim Halloween Box Cup
Seven Donegal boxers, three of them from St Bridget’s in Clonmany, celebrated victory at the County Antrim Halloween Box Cup.
Conan Kearney, Rowen Doherty and Darragh McGonigle from St Bridget’s toasted wins while there was also success for Convoy duo Kerry Brown and Isabella Iwanek, Dunfanaghy BC’s Eddie McBride and Derryveagh BC’s David Tennyson.
Kearney blitzed his way to the Senior Cadet 66kgs honours.
Having beaten Cayden Cummings from Cookstown in a quarter-final, Kearney stopped Glengormley puncher Niall Lemon in a semi-final.
The classy Kearney overpowered and outpointed Portavogie BC’s Christian McMaster via a unanimous decision in the final.
Doherty of St Bridget’s took the Junior Cadet 40kgs title. Doherty was a unanimous winner over Thomas McDonagh from Carickmore in the final. In his semi-final, Doherty got the better of Clonard’s Jack Kelly, taking a narrow 2-1 split.
McGonigle held sway against Alfie Harrington of Dunboyne to win the Boy 1 42kgs crown. McGonigle claimed a 2-1 split decision having stopped Martin Floyd (Emerald) in his semi-final.
Kerry Brown of Convoy BC was a winner
Brown impressed to take the Senior Cadet 60kgs final. Brown claimed a unanimous decision from the judges to see off Hayley McFerran of Portavogie BC.
McBride made no mistake in his Junior Cadet 57kgs decider. McBride overcame Odhran McComb of Immaculata. On his way to the final, McBride successfully navigated East Down’s Conor Lowry and Damien Suriak from Ratoath Golden Gloves.

Tennyson bagged the Senior Cadet 63kgs title on a walkover after Nedas Smataukas - who overcame Twin Towns lad Brian Anderson in a semi-final - withdrew from their final. Tennyson recorded wins over Jake Burns (Glengormley) and Luke McAuley (Ormeau Road) to reach the final.
There was also a walkover win for Iwanek of Convoy BC, who took the Girl 1 54kgs silverware.
Roisin Hegarty, now of Twin Towns BC, lost out to Emmie Barrett from Donmore in the Junior Cadet final at 60kgs while Carys McFadden from Dunfanaghy BC lost out to Skye-Leigh Haighton from the Evolution club in the Senior Cadet 46kgs final.

Twin Towns’ Caoimhin Connolly reached the Senior Cadet 50kgs final, but lost out to Zain Iqbal from Southside Boxing Academy, who edged a 2-1 split. Sean Doohan of Dunfanaghy BC lost on a similar verdict against Chulainn McDonnell from Whitechurch.
