Kevin Gallagher secures second place in Monaghan Rally's modified section

Gallagher and co-driver Ger Conway trail winners by a slim margin, while Inishowen's Kyle McDaid triumphs in Junior category

Rathmullan man Kevin Gallagher alongside co-driver Ger Conway came second in the modified section of the Monaghan rally on Sunday.  

Gallagher and Conway were just 1.8 seconds behind the winners Daniel McKenna and Andrew Grennan, while Donegal man Damien Tourish alongside Domhnall McAlaney finished third, just 0.1 seconds behind Gallagher.  

Meanwhile, Josh Moffett and Keith Moriarty won the Ronnie Hawe Monaghan Stages Rally in their Citroën C3, while Sam Moffett and James O’Reilly were 11 seconds off the winners in their Hyundai i20. 

Eddie Doherty and Tom Murphy finished third to complete the overall top three. 

Elsewhere, Inishowen’s Kyle McDaid won the Juniors alongside Shane Maguire in his Honda Civic EK4.  

This is a month on from when he won the Junior Rally in Mayo.
