Inishowen RFC
Following last weekend’s Forester Cup disappointment, Inishowen kept their league title hopes on track with a 47-12 win away to Ballymoney.
The visitors started the game strongly and it only took six minutes to break the deadlock when Riain Shortt finished off some good forward play to score from close range.
Inishowen were dominating most areas of the field and it wasn’t long before Hatter scored in the corner to leave it 14-0, thanks to a conversions by Scott.
Early changes meant the bench was rolled on quickly but this didn’t interrupt Inishowen’s control of the game and it was Scott who went over for the next try to leave it 19-0.
Inishowen really did look like they were capable of scoring from anywhere and when Fitzpatrick broke the line there was no one home to stop them going in 26-0 clear at the break and with the bonus point in the bag.
The second half started the same way when Cantwell ran half the length of the field to score before Ballmoney got one of their own to make it 33-5.
Donaghy, who was captaining the side at this stage, then got in when a great back move released him on the left and the score read 40-5.
A bit of indecision in defence then allowed the home side in for another score to put them on double figures at 40-12 before Richie Ferron sneaked over to seal the win converted by Cantwell.
Next week the team face a tricky away trip to Coleraine where they know a win will be a huge step to securing their third league title in as many years.
