Clonmany ladies tug of war team
Clonmany Junior Tug of War team set the bar high on the first day of the World Indoor Championships by landing gold in Sweden.
Speaking to DonegalLive on Friday morning, coach Daniel Doherty said it was an explosive opening to the competition from the Clonmany girls.
“The girls are over the moon. We departed Monday morning and we wanted to get off to a good start. As well as ourselves, both the girls teams and the senior mens, we also have the Cockhill and Carndonagh clubs out here as well so plenty of familiar faces!”
Indeed, Cockhill men also picked up medals on Thursday, taking silver at 680kilo. Clonmany B women though went one better with that gold in the 480 junior category.
The Clonmany B men were unfortunate not to take a bronze medal, just missing out after they defeated in the 600kilo play-off to Chinese Taipei. The action will continue right up to Sunday - with the International competitions taking centre stage.
The Inishowen sides are due home on Monday afternoon.
