Sean Gillen from Clonmany following his victory at the Official Strongman Games Ireland’s Strongest Man in Ballymoney
Sean Gillen was crowned the winner of the Official Strongman Games Ireland’s Strongest Man at Ballymoney, Co Antrim, on Saturday.
The Culdaff native beat off competition from Limerick’s Pa O’Dwyer - a five-time Ireland's Strongest Man winner and World's Strongest Man competitor - and Ruairi O’Hagan, from Banbridge, Co Down.
“Since starting my strongman journey, I have always had the goal of being Irelands strongest man and today I made that happen in a very tough lineup of Irish strongmen,” Gillen, who moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 2012, posted on Saturday.
“It was a battle all the way to the end but I was able to finish strong and win earning myself a ticket to Britain’s Strongest Man 2024.”
It comes on the back of Gillen’s success at the SDB apparel World’s Log Lift Championship, where he lifted 200kg to win. Gillen will compete in the Magnús Ver Magnússon Classic this coming weekend.
