Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn met with Conor McGregor in Dublin on Monday to discuss the possibility of hosting Katie Taylor's homecoming fight in Croke Park this year.

The exchange came after McGregor took to social media and offered to sponsor the cost of the highly anticipated event if it were to be in Croker.

Taylor, who is preparing for her rematch with Puerto Rican boxer Amanda Serrano on May 20, is expected to still fight in Dublin's 3Arena but Hearn insists a stadium fight will be the target at a later date.

Hearn told RTE: "There are a couple of phases to this. Number one, and the most important thing, is to bring Katie Taylor to Ireland. Number two is to try and get her to fight at Croke Park.

"We talked about the numbers, cost, time frame - the TV dates. We talked about the value also of fighting at the 3Arena. He has fought there himself, he said the atmosphere was unbelievable.

"I do think it's realistic for us that 20 May will be in the 3Arena. But I do think that a stadium fight will follow suit."

The 3Arena would only hold a reported 9,000 spectators while Croke Park could host 80,000+.
