Letterkenny native Killian Gribben is one of five students from Siena Men’s Basketball team to have received recognition on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team
For the second consecutive season, Siena Men's Basketball has matched a program milestone with five students making the team.
Leading among all MAAC Men's Basketball programs, the Saints have demonstrated excellence both on the court and in the classroom.
To qualify for the MAAC Men's Basketball All-Academic Team, student athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 by the conclusion of the most recent 2023 semester and have completed at least two semesters at their current institution.
Siena's honorees this season comprise senior Steven Lazar, boasting a GPA of 3.89 in Biology, along with sophomores Sveinn Birgisson (3.22 – Business), Mason Courtney (3.77 – Biology), Brendan Coyle (3.60 – Finance), and Gribben (3.75 – Actuarial Science). Lazar's exceptional performance during the latest semester, securing a flawless 4.0 GPA, has contributed to the program's outstanding cumulative GPA of 3.45.
In the upcoming MAAC Tournament, the Saints will enter as the No 11 seed, set to face off against sixth-seeded Niagara in the First Round on Tuesday night at approximately 9.45pm, hosted at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Letterkenny man Gribben, who stands a towering 6’10”, was awarded a scholarship at Siena College in New York in 2022 having been at Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut.
In 2021, Gribben played for Ireland in the FIBA European Challenge in Slovakia.
He played with Letterkenny Blaze and LYIT Donegal and also had success at schools' level with St Eunan’s College.
