Donegal U-20 hurling team
Donegal's U-20 hurling team secured a notable victory on the road against Cavan this afternoon at Breffni Park, triumphing with a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-5.
In what proved to be favourable spring weather, the visiting team took charge early on, displaying dominant play. However, they faced challenges in converting their opportunities into points, managing only five points from 17 shots on goal during the first half.
Fiachra Gill of Buncrana contributed two points from set plays, while Cavan rallied towards the end of the half, scoring a late goal to narrow the margin.
Cavan emerged as the stronger side at the start of the second half, exerting pressure on Donegal's defense. Goalkeeper Joseph Patton of Letterkenny Gaels played a pivotal role in thwarting several goal attempts.
However, Donegal regained momentum and showcased their offensive prowess, scoring five points and three goals, all from open play. Matthew Winters' decisive strike in front of the goal was a testament to his determination.
Manager Adie Gaffey commended the team's collective effort, with seven different players making significant contributions to the scoreboard. Notable performances included Donal Farrelly from Letterkenny Gaels, Ciaran Porter from Burt, and Fiachra Gill from Buncrana.
Looking ahead, Donegal's U-20 hurlers will face Fermanagh at Convoy on Sunday, February 18, with the match scheduled to commence at 12pm.
