Gardai say the results of a post-mortem will assist them in determining the course of the investigation
Gardaí have launched an investigation following the discovery of a man's body at a residential property in Cavan town.
The alarm was raised shortly after 3am this Wednesday when gardaí and emergency services were alerted after the body of the man, aged in his 40s, was discovered.
A garda spokesperson confirmed the grim discovery was made at a residential property on Connolly Street, Cavan and that the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"The Office of the State Pathologist and the local Coroner have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged. The scene is currently preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau," they said.

Gardai say the results of the post-mortem will assist Gardaí in determining the course of the investigation.
Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to come forward.
