Mystery as two teenage girls go missing on remote Irish island amid garda appeal

A Garda appeal has been launched to find two teenage girls who have gone missing from an island off the coast of Cork.

Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in tracing the whereabouts of Feya Mc Carthy (13) and Lena Mc Carthy (15) who were reported missing from Bere Island, Co Cork on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Feya is described as being 5 foot 4 inches in height, with a slim build, blonde hair and blue eyes. Feya has her nose pierced.

Lena is described as being 5 foot 3 inches in height, with a slim build, black hair and green eyes. Lena has her ears and nose pierced.

Gardaí and Feya and Lena's family are concerned for their wellbeing.

Anyone with any information on Feya and Lena’s whereabouts is asked to contact either Castletownbere Garda Station on 027 70002, Bantry Garda Station on 027 20860, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Gardaí have released photographs of the missing teenagers on social media with the posts being shared far and wide in the hopes of sightings or information resulting in their safe return home to their family in Cork. 

The posts have received hundreds of shares in the short time since they were published on Wednesday evening.

Bere Island is situated 120km miles west of Cork City on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork. It is a two-hour drive from Cork City and is only accessible by ferry.
