A motorist has captured the terrifying moment he nearly collided with a loose cow on the M6 near Westmeath on Thursday morning.
A collision involving a car and a trailer carrying livestock occurred on the M6, Junction 3 just outside Rochfortbridge in Westmeath at around 7.15am.

Gardaí along with other members of emergency services rushed to the scene and confirmed that a number of cows were loose on the road which was closed for a period of time but no livestock were injured.
The motorist of the car was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Another motorist that was travelling along the M6 at the time captured the dramatic footage of one of the cows leaping over the barrier. The driver swerved just in time, narrowly missing what could have been a very serious accident.

The driver then posted the video to social media with the caption, "Be careful on the M6 this morning outside Rochfortbridge on the loose! I nearly had a near miss!".

Gardaí have said investigations into the collision are ongoing.
