Gardaí have seized over €300,000 worth of drugs and arrested three people following a major operation targeting organised crime in Co Meath.
The operation was carried out today, Monday, by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) as part of Operation Tara.
During the course of the operation, gardaí intercepted two vehicles in the Navan area and seized cannabis valued at €120,000, cocaine worth €2,000 and €13,000 in cash.
The occupants of the vehicles, two men in their 40s and a woman in her 30s, were detained at the scene and subsequently arrested on suspicion of offences under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006.
They are currently being detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at a Garda station in Co Meath.
In follow-up searches of nearby lands, assisted by the Garda Dog Unit, gardaí recovered further quantities of cannabis with an estimated value of €60,000 and €140,000.
All drugs seized during the operation will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
Detective Chief Superintendent Seamus Boland, Head of the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau, said gardaí remain firmly focused on disrupting and dismantling organised crime networks.
“An Garda Síochána will continue to focus our resources on those engaged in organised crime. We are determined to continue dismantling drug trafficking operations across Ireland and will continue doing our part to keep our communities safer. Please think before you use.”
Investigations into the seizure and arrests are ongoing.
