A second woman, aged in her 40s, rendered assistance and was brought by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital
An elderly woman has died after being attacked by a swarm of bees in Mayo.
On Monday, September 1, Gardaí assisted emergency services at a medical incident involving a woman in Ballycastle village, Ballina. This occurred at approximately 5:40pm.
The woman, aged in her 70s, became ill and was transferred by air ambulance to Sligo General Hospital, where she then passed away.

RTÉ have reported that the woman and her husband were tending to several beehives when the incident took place. They stated that she was helping collect honey from the hives when the swarm attacked.
A second woman, aged in her 40s, rendered assistance and was brought by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
A post mortem examination will be carried out and the results will determine the course of the Garda investigation.
The local Coroner has been informed.
