A man who died following a workplace accident in Ennistymon, County Clare has been named locally as Sub Station Fire Officer Joe Crosse.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal work-related incident that occurred on Thursday, July 24. The accident is believed to have occurred at approximately 10am.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in the town confirmed that "a male in his 40s suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased."

The late Joe Crosse was married to his wife Bríd and a father of two children, Teagan and Odhran. He worked as a plasterer and retained firefighter in Ennistymon.

Mr Crosse was an active member of the community, where he served as manager in the under9's category of Ennistymon GAA Club.

Paying tribute to much-loved man, a spokesperson for the club said, "Ennistymon GAA were saddened to learn of the sudden and tragic passing of Joe Crosse yesterday. Joe was manager with our U9s, having looked after U7s previously and helped with U11s too.

"Just last weekend he organised U9s for a half time game at the first round of the senior championship. Always smiling and ready for a chat, Joe was a true volunteer, community and family man. He led so many charity fundraisers, ran marathons, organised blitz's, a highly regarded and sought-after plasterer and a retained firefighter with the Ennistymon crew. He was the best of everyone. A great coach, neighbour, worker and friend," a representative added.

The club went on to give their condolences to his wife, children, brother, sisters, colleagues, friends and extended family.

Ennistymon GAA called Mr Crosse a "model family man; cousin, uncle, brother, father and husband."

Limerick combat gym, a place the late plasterer frequented, were shocked to hear the news, calling Mr Crosse their "brother."
"Any one of us that knew Joe knew the kind of stand up guy he was. A fireman, a paramedic, a skilled martial artist, a coach, a great friend and an amazing family man. To his wife and children, we can only pass on our deepest condolences and to let them know all of us in Limerick combat gym and the wider martial arts community our thoughts and prayers are with you in this tragic time. Rest in peace Joe, you were truly the best of us," they said.
The Lahinch Playground Project recalled sweet memories of the late man, who once helped them out immensely.
They said, "We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Joe Crosse, Ennistymon. Joe was kind enough to help us raise funds for the playground back in 2014 when he did a 100 mile run around Clare. He has also been known and respected by so many in the community and surrounding areas for his kindness of fundraising for charities. We send our sincere sympathies to the entire family."

The scene of the incident was preserved for technical examination and the Health and Safety Authority were notified. They are currently investigating the matter.

Mr Crosse will repose at Clouna Church, Ennistymon on Sunday, July 27 from 5pm-8pm. The beloved man's Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, July 28 at 12 noon with burial afterwards in the Old Cemetery, Ennistymon.

May he rest in peace.
