An Irish father-of-three who died after collapsing while climbing Errigal Mountain in Donegal over the weekend has been named locally as Carl Henderson from Moira, Co Armagh.
Carl, aged 48, became unwell while hiking the popular trail with friends on Saturday. Emergency services, including Malin Head Coastguard and ambulance personnel, were called to the scene shortly after midday.
He was airlifted by Rescue 118 to Letterkenny University Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
His sudden passing has left his family and community heartbroken. In a moving death notice on RIP.ie, Carl was described as a "beloved husband" to Caroline and an "incredible father" to their children Aibhilín, Rían, and Caoimhe.
"His strength and care will continue to shape Caroline and their children, as they hold his memory close in the years to come," the notice read.
Tributes have poured in online, with one mourner writing: "Absolutely devastated to receive this awful news this morning. Carl was such a kind soul. We will miss him terribly. Thinking of Caroline, Aibhilín, Rían and Caoimhe at this dreadful time."
Another shared: "I was so sorry to hear of Carl's untimely passing earlier today and really sad news. Passing on our deepest condolences to Carl's wife and children at this really difficult time. Carl was a gentleman and true professional. In our thoughts and prayers"
"Sincere condolences to Caroline, Aibhilín, Rían and Caoimhe on the passing of their wonderful husband and daddy. We are heartbroken to hear this news this morning. Carl was a true gentleman," read another message.
"God rest you Carl, a diamond of a man. Love and prayers to my cousin Caroline and kids," said a relative.
Carl is also remembered as a loving son-in-law to Patrick Ryan of Darlington and a much-loved brother-in-law and uncle. He is predeceased by his parents, Geoffrey and Angela Henderson, his mother-in-law, Maeve Ryan, and his niece-in-law, Aisling.
Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
