Gardai say incident happened at Aghavilla, Carrigallen shortly after 3pm on Tuesday

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy died and another was injured following a fatal road traffic collision in County Leitrim.

The fatal incident, involving a tractor, occurred at approximately 3.10pm on Tuesday on the R204 at Aghavilla, Carrigallen. 

"A male passenger of the tractor, aged in his late teens, was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The male driver of the tractor, aged in his late teens, was conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time," said a garda spokesperson. 

Motorists are being advised the road remains closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and that local diversions are in place.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were travelling in the area between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Tuesday are asked to make this footage available.
