Tributes are being paid to a talented Irish musician who was killed in a car crash in Roscommon, close to Athlone, on Wednesday night.
The fatal crash occurred in the N61 Athlone to Roscommon Road at approximately 10pm when the when the car was involved in a crash with a lorry.
The male driver of the car was removed from the scene to Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe, where he was later pronounced dead.
He has since been named locally as Rian Sheridan, a 25-year-old who was a native of Cluainluáin, Renvyle, Co Galway.
Mr Sheridan was a talented musician who regularly performed at traditional music festivals around the country, including the Clifden Tradfest.
The dairy farmer, who studied at UCD, also played football with his local club, Kilbride GAA.
Anne Garvey of Clifden CS posted on RIP: "Deepest condolences to Maria, Finian and family, to Aine and all who mourn the loss of Rian. Fondly remembering him from his school days and since. Rian’s smile lit up a room. He was such a pleasant young man. In the prime of his life following his passions, love of animals, music and sport. May good memories shared and proud moments help you all through this awful tragedy. Rest in peace Rian. Thoughts and prayers with you all".
Marcella Romaine Lynch who tragically lost her own sister, 39-year-old Irene Lynch, in a recent road crash posted on social media: "RIP - God help his family in this sad time".
Details on RIP outlined that the death has occurred of Rian Sheridan, Cluainluáin, Renvyle, Co.Galway, who died tragically on the 27th of March 2024. Beloved only son of Finian and Maria Sheridan, and much loved and adored brother of Ciara, Doireann and Aebhín and brother-in-law Christopher Casey, his nephews Fionn and Shay Casey his loving girlfriend Áine Griffin.
"Rian will be sadly missed by his grandparents Sean and May O'Toole and his grandmother Doreen Sheridan Dolly, along with his aunts and uncles, cousins and the Griffin family and his many friends around the whole of Ireland that he made through his love of dairy farming, music, football and studies in UCD," the death notice read.
Reposing in Christ the King Church, Tullycross (H91D285) on Easter Sunday evening March 31st from 4pm until 7pm. Requiem Mass on Monday April 1st at 12 noon followed by burial in Renvyle Cemetery.
