Man and woman due in court after firearms seized in Dublin

A man and a woman are due to appear in court after firearms and ammunition were seized by gardai in Dublin.

On Friday afternoon, Gardai attached to the Blanchardstown District stopped a car on the Old Navan Road.

The two people in the car were found to be in possession of a pistol and ammunition, gardai said.

A man aged in his 20s and a woman aged in her 30s were arrested at the scene and were detained at a Garda station in Dublin under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Follow-up searches were then carried out on Friday evening at two addresses in Dublin.

During the course of these searches, two more firearms were seized including a submachine gun and sawn-off shotgun, as well as ammunition.

All three seized firearms and ammunition are subject to analysis by the ballistics section of the Garda National Technical Bureau.

The woman and man have been charged and are to appear before Blanchardstown District Court on Monday morning.
