Major broadband outage sparks apology from leading provider

Sky Ireland has apolgised to its customers who have been impacted by the outage

SKY Ireland has apologised to thousands of broadband customers who have been impacted by a significant outage.

Up to 6,000 homes and businesses in Limerick city and its environs are currently without a service sparking anger and frustration for customers.

The problem, which is also impacting some other providers, was first reported at around 3.30pm on Tuesday when a small number of customers lost their service.

The outage, the cause of which has not  been confirmed, worsened on Tuesday evening when more customers reported that they too had been impacted.

A spokesperson for Sky Ireland says efforts are being made to rectify the problem.

"We are aware of an outage affecting broadband customers in Limerick, including some Sky customers. Our teams are working to rectify the issue as a matter of urgency. We apologise to our affected customers for this inconvenience," they said.

No timeline has been given as to when the broadband service will be restored.
