Urgent recall of popular blender due to risk of internal damage from broken pieces

An urgent recall has been issued for all BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission issued the recall on Tuesday January 9 dues to risk of fire and injury related to the product in question.

Risks associated include overheating of the battery within the product which may cause it to catch fire while charging. Also, in certain circumstances of intensive use, a blender blade may break off, releasing a fragment, with the consequent risk of laceration of an internal digestive organ if it is swallowed.

The brand is BlendJet and the affected units are among the following serial numbers: 5201000000 through and including 5542999999.

Any BlendJet 2 with a serial number that begins with 5543 or a greater number is not subject to this recall, as it already features the updated base.

There are approximately 11,877 affected products in the Republic of Ireland. The product was sold from October 2020 to November 2023
