National: Driver who never held a driving licence tested positive for drugs

Driver who never held a driving licence tested positive for drugs

Gardaí used automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology to capture a driver who had no insurance and then tested positive for drugs.

The ANPR alerted Gardaí on patrol in Dundalk to the van being driven at night-time without tax or insurance.

When stopped by gardaí, they discovered that the driver never held a driving licence.

To make matters worse, gardaí confirmed he tested positive for cannabis in a roadside test.

The driver was subsequently arrested and the van seized.

The driver is expected to face criminal prosecution for the road traffic offences.
