THE INFAMOUS Limerick gangland murderer, David Stanners, has been found dead at Mountjoy Prison.
David ‘Frog Eyes’ Stanners, from Moyross, is reported to have been "discovered deceased" in the early hours of this Thursday morning.
A post-mortem is expected to take place, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.
The 51-year-old had served over 20 years of a life sentence for the murder of rival gang boss Kieran Keane, brother of the leader of one of Limerick’s feuding gangs, Christy Keane, as part of a vicious Limerick feud.
Stanners was a key member of the McCarthy/Dundon gang before he was jailed for life in December 2003 for the murder Kieran Keane in January of the same year.
Stanners was part of a five-man group who murdered Keane in Drombanna. Among the others were, Desmond Dundon 23, of Hyde Road; James McCarthy 27, of Delmege Park, Moyross; Christopher “Smokie” Costelloe 23, of Moylish Avenue, Ballynanty and Anthony “Noddy” McCarthy 24, of Fairgreen, Garryowen.
