National: Gardaí warn of new 'discounted electricity' text scam

'Not to click the link' - Staying informed on scam text messages

Gardaí are warning people about a scam text claiming to offer energy discounts. 

The text message purports to come from Gov.ie. 

“You are eligible for a discounted electricity bill under the energy support scheme. You can apply here:” the text message states. 

Gardaí are warning anyone who receives the text message not to click the link and to delete the message. 

“Please do not share account details and personal information to anyone over the phone or email or social media. Also never click on links. Scams evolve, the advice is always the same,” Gardaí stated.
