National: Male pedestrian (40s) dies in fatal road traffic collision in Louth

Gardaí are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the M1 Motorway, Dundalk, Co. Louth in the early hours of this morning Sunday 8th October, 2023.

At approximately 2.45am Gardaí were alerted to a road traffic collision at Junction 16 southbound on the M1 motorway. A male pedestrian, aged in his 40s, was fatally injured when struck by a vehicle. His body remains at the scene. A post mortem will take place in due course.

The male driver, aged in his early 50s, and his three passengers (aged 50s and 40s) were attended to by ambulance personnel at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

The scene of the collision is currently preserved for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators (FCI). The road remains closed and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí in Dundalk are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who were travelling on the M1 this morning between 2.30am and 3.00am, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), is asked to make this available to Gardaí.
