Grandparents and three-year-old grandchild killed in Tipperary collision

The incident happened near Cashel on Tuesday night

GARDAI have confirmed three fatalities after a road traffic collision that occurred outside Cashel in County Tipperary on Tuesday night. 

The single vehicle collision occurred shortly before 9pm when a car hit a wall in the Windmill Knockbulloge area.

Gardaí can now confirm three fatalities as a result of this collision.

The adult male and adult female rear seat passengers were pronounced deceased at the scene - both were aged in their 40s.

Their bodies remain at the scene.

An infant boy was also fatally injured during the collision; the body of the infant boy has been taken to Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel.

The adult male driver and adult female front seat passenger of the car have been taken to Tipperary University Hospital where their condition is described as serious. They are aged in their 20s.

The road at Windmill Knockbulloge is currently closed to traffic with local diversions in place.

The road remained closed overnight and will remain closed for much of this Wednesday to facilitate forensic examinations of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

An incident room has been established at Cahir Garda Station and a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact the investigation team.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Windmill Knockbulloge area near Cashel between 8.30pm and 9.15pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
