The detection was made on the N5 in County Mayo
A MOTORIST is facing prosecution after they were allegedly caught driving at almost twice the speed limit over the weekend.
In a post on social media, gardai say members of the Mayo Roads Policing Unit were carrying out speed checks on the N5 dual carriageway on Sunday when they detected a vehicle which was travelling at 192km/h in a 100km/h zone.
The 25km N5 stretches from Longford town to Westport in County Mayo - bypassing several towns including Charlestown, Swinford and Castlebar.
Gardai have confirmed the car was stopped and driver arrested and court proceedings initiated.
The exact location of the detection has not been disclosed.
